The Reagan Administration vs. The EPA
"Reagan apparently thought that he was giving America's then sagging domestic oil and auto industries a boost. The result: We quickly started to get readdicted to imported oil...The Reagan Administration was an environmental turning point too... Reagan ran not only against the government in general but against environmental regulations in particular. He and his interior Secretary, James Watt, turned environmental regulation into a much more partisan and polarizing issue than it had been ever before" (Hot, Flat, and Crowded, Friedman).

Once Reagan went into office he felt that it was his duty to bring the auto industry back up to power. He loaned a large quantity of the Administration's money to the auto industries basically telling them "here you go, put yourself back on top." As his administration supported domestic oil so did the rest of the community. the U.S. citizens were again reintroduced to oil and to its benifits, thus causeing more people to become "addicted" to the use of oil which then starts polluting the air and water. The Americans dont really know any better, basically they think "well if Reagan says that it is ok to use, than it must be." Reagan only thought about recovering companies at any cost, even if that cost is the environment.
